Oak Hill Falls

Oak Hill Falls

Oak Hill Falls is nestled along the bank of the Niagara Escarpment at the peak of Oak Hill development.  This prestigious neighborhood was built by Lewistonian Joe Deck and his son, Michael.  The late Joe and Claire Deck lived here and entertained many Lewiston notables during their stay.  This father and son team also built many homes in our community including several in the Lewiston Heights Region.

The Gimas purchased the home in 2012.  They found the house while perusing real estate online and fell in love with it, partly because of its unique architecture and partly because, over the years, they fell in love with Lewiston.  While it is close to the village, it offers a feeling of seclusion, giving owners Greg and Judy Gima the best of both worlds.

They went straight to work to make it their own.  Walking in the front door, guests will be in awe of the 22 foot ceilings that overlook their foyer.  Travel up the stairs and into the living room that will leave you speechless.  The south side of the living room has 17 foot windows that help bring the outdoors inside.  To further enhance the experience, the Gimas have built a stream with waterfalls that come down the embankment.  Each season it lends a different feeling to the room.

The couple has recently re-surfaced their kitchen cabinets that compliment a 32 sq foot Corian® Private Collection island. The kitchen also has a pizza oven that was put in by the Deck family but is enjoyed by the Gimas.  Just recently, they have added on a breakfast room that has window seating and views of the embankment.  The décor, in chartreuse and blue, gives the space a pop.  This breakfast room flows into another outdoor, covered dining area and is perfect for grilling and entertaining.

The views of the back yard are enhanced by an outdoor stone fire pit, perennial gardens, woods and trails that lead up to another outdoor eating space with views to dine for.

Swan Song

Swan Song

This is no ordinary Cape Cod home.  The McDermotts raised their six children in what was a modest, post war home in the village, similar to many others in their neighborhood.  Once the children were grown, they went to work converting it into a retirement retreat unlike any other.  With the help of family members, they completely opened up the floor plan by taking down walls and adding expansive windows along the back of the home that overlooks their back yard retreat.

Their white birch cabinetry and granite island give the kitchen a modern feel that is further enhanced with their stainless steel island base and appliances.  Brazilian Cherry floors are featured throughout.

This home has clean lines and granite that is used tastefully throughout the first floor. It is incorporated in their fireplace, deep window sills and even on a wall or two.  Floor to ceiling mirrors cleverly make their living space seem much larger than it is.

In the center of the home is an open staircase that leads up to a private loft, sitting room and bedroom.   The second floor porch offers a magnificent view of the 60 foot pool, gardens (designed by  Kevin Brown of Walnut Creek Properties), an outdoor fire pit and a pool house all accented by walkways designed with stamped concrete.

What once was a garage is now a guest house that would make any guest want to overstay their welcome.  Notice the copper cupola crowned with a swan.  Guests will notice subtle hints of swans incorporated into their décor and even into an attractive and unique table.  Swans symbolize love, grace, balance, beauty and purity among other things.  While both Tom and Joan are now retired, Tom still practices out of his home as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.  He is a firm believer in meditation which is reflected in the serenity of their living spaces.

Thinking Outside the Box

Thinking Outside the Box

Chantal and Bob Tink have completely transformed their home using their natural design sense, quest for the unique and their own enthusiasm that seems to energize them as they have tackled room after room.

Bob is the owner of Wesley Elevator Company and Stair Lifts of Buffalo.  It kind of makes sense that he directs the mechanics of their projects and she definitely has a flair for design and uniqueness.  A great example of their cleverness is evidenced in their transformation of turning a basic master bedroom into a retreat, complete with a 16 foot vaulted ceiling and a master bath with a true spa feel.

The second story loft which can be seen from their kitche, has gorgeous tile that they installed themselves, not only on the stairs but also on their island.  This loft overlooks an adjoining TV lounge area that has access to their outdoor living space.

The décor in each room varies in style but the Tinks have found a way to make it all flow beautifully.  The dining room has a modern, hip feel while the great room with its floor to ceiling stone fireplace gives the room an Adirondack Lux appeal.  Working together as a team, they brainstorm and design, then Bob does the rough work and Chantal follows with the finishing elements.

In every room you will find items that have been used not necessarily for their intended purpose.  Creativity is a must in the Tink house.  It is all simply amazing.

The back yard incorporates an outdoor kitchen and open sunroom dining area that gives it a resort feel.  There is also a gazebo that is perfect for their many get-togethers and an in-ground pool that makes you just want to sit, relax and enjoy the summer!

Roemer's Retreat

Roemer's Retreat

Lewiston is fortunate in that an amazing number of our historic homes and buildings are still with us.  However, the richness of our history is not limited to the structures that remain.  Our people are our history as well.  Such is the case at Roemer’s Retreat.  Pat Roemer and Cyndi Van Dusen-Roemer built this magnificent home in 2007, but Pat’s family has lived in Lewiston for generations.  In fact, Pat’s grandfather, Aloysius Schneider owned a thriving restaurant on Center Street, called appropriately enough – Schneider’s (where the Brickyard BBQ and Pub is today).

Pat and Cyndi’s lovely home has the openness of a contemporary living space with the comfort and warmth of a much older house.  The nearly 5,000 square feet of living space is deceiving – one feels the coziness of a smaller space, surrounded by the glow of beautifully inlaid hardwood floors and the intimacy of a coffered ceiling.   The Roemer’s have chosen expansive windows, unobstructed by curtains, to enjoy the wonderful view of their 11 acres. Their expansive kitchen flows into their breakfast room to the east and their dining room to the west.

Pat and Cyndi personally designed every aspect of their home.  It is large enough to accommodate their family of eight and then some.  Cyndi is a well-respected real estate agent at Hunt Real Estate.  Her years of experience with homes of various architectural designs helped her define what she and Pat wanted for their own home.  In 2013, they created a magnificent outdoor space that includes a Beauty Pool with a sun shelf and water fountain jets as well as an outdoor dining space complete with a turquoise glass fire pit and gas tiki torches.

The flagpole in front of the house was a welcome-home gift from Cyndi to Pat upon his return from a tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force in Iraq. Pat recently retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 28 years of service to our country.

Stone Gables

Stone Gables

Dana and Ken Zuber are the owners of this sprawling 3300 square foot arts and crafts style rambler, named for its gabled roof lines and expansive exterior stacked flagstone.

The interior of the home is stunning with clean lines and a neutral palette of colors. The large living room has soaring ceilings, accented by artistic millwork and 18” deep crown moulding.  Through the floor to ceiling windows, guests have a clear view of the gorgeous back patio and pool.  The comfortable seating and baby grand piano make this room perfect for a cozy night by the fire, or a large party of friends and family singing around the piano.

Just off of the living room is an intimate screening room that is perfect for movie night.

The kitchen of this beautiful home takes center stage.  Guests will note there is ample storage behind the custom cream cabinets finished in a sienna glaze.  They are complimented by the rich espresso cabinets of the island and range hood.  The large expanse of granite surfaces and state of the art appliances make for a chefs dream.  The island is a perfect surface to host a scrumptious buffet.

Outside, you’ll find more impressive features to this home including a private outdoor living space with cathedral tongue and groove ceiling complete with a stacked flagstone fireplace to warm you on those cool summer nights. The new outdoor kitchen offers a large screen television, bar, grill and rotisserie.  These features make it easy to grab a plate and test the chef’s latest creation to enjoy on the patio or with your toes in the pool.

Stone Gables was built to their specs by Glenwood Builders. The couple enjoys spending their weekends either quietly at home or entertaining with family and friends. Together, Dana and Ken are the owners of Plato’s Closet and The Clothes Mentor with five Western New York locations.

Summer Haven

Summer Haven

Tom and Sue Reese are the owners of this sprawling 3200 square foot ranch on a landscaped acre.  It has proven to be a perfect fit for their active lifestyle.  Located just steps from the Niagara River, it is close to the Youngstown Yacht Club where Tom can pursue his passion for sailing.  While Sue enjoys life on the water, she is also an avid golfer at the Niagara Falls Country Club.

From the moment you walk in the door, you can sense a serene atmosphere that is influenced by crème tones and accented with a rich leather arm chair and floor to ceiling Palladian windows that overlook their expansive back yard.  The couple enjoys gardening which is evidenced by their colorful and varied landscaping.

The dining room features a Henkel Harris table, chairs and buffet which is highlighted by a spectacular Swarovski crystal chandelier and grasscloth walls...a perfect space for casual or formal dining with friends and family.

For the past 34 years, Tom has enjoyed a distinguished career as the owner of the Red Coach Inn and Restaurant that overlooks the Niagara Rapids.  Both Tom and Sue enjoy cooking and entertaining.  Tom, in fact, studied at the Culinary Institute of America and for many years Sue owned Natural Food stores in the Niagara Region of Ontario.  Their open kitchen allows them to explore their passion for fine wine and food while entertaining guests or relaxing in their family room.  The granite countertops are the perfect pop for their bisque colored cabinets.  Look closely and you’ll see that the cupboards feature nautical line accents.

The stone and granite fireplace in their family room is impressive and climbs to the top of their 16' cathedral ceiling.

Tour guests are invited to explore the back yard, cozy covered patio and Gazebo with Lloyd Flanders wicker furniture, the perfect space to entertain guests on warm summer nights.
